The coolest thing happened to me today. I was in Sydney to speak at an event at the Masonic Center. I was just walking to the bathroom when this guy ran over and introduced himself to me. He said “I am one of the speakers here this weekend and just wanted to say hi” I look at him and said “I know you, are you a student?” and he said “nooooo!” He then stared at me and said “oh my god, I know you too”. We literally just started at each other for a few moments and the said “oohhhhhhhhh my goooooood…Carly? Really? Did you used to work at….” I said yeah I did when I was about 18. He said I cant believe this! You absolutely changed my life and I have been telling people the story for years, I use it in my seminars, in my training - all the time I tell people all about you and I have never been able to track you down.
You see as an 18 year old I was a bit embarrassed about the “Crutchfield” part of my name (now I love it) so I used to use my middle name as my last name.
I then remembered exactly who he was. When I was 18 I wanted to study a wealth creation course but I didn’t want to pay for it, I wanted to learn under this guy who I saw as a genius. So I got a job with him selling his course and was able to do them all for free. One of the people I sold the course to was this guy, Warren.
He said that he had absolutely no intention of ever buying the course and that I had chatted to him and really understood his situation and insisted that if he did do the course it would change his life as it was doing for me. He somehow believe in me and spent $5000 on this course. When I saw him today he told me that that was the day that his whole life changed around and he has never been the same since. It was the turning point for him and he said it was because of my chats and my phone calls and insisting he do it, because he never would have.
I just stared at him mouth agape. I could not believe it. I could not believe that almost 10 years later he remember me and remember the story and he remember every intimate detail. I really did think I was just a telemarketer calling a bloke to tell him he should do something that I was doing and loving. At that time, that 18 year old had no idea of the impact she could have possibly had by making those phone calls.
And it just made me realize that you really do impact somebody else with every little thing you do, and you sometimes never realize it. For better or worse whatever actions you take or do not take will have an effect on someone else. If I could remember that, if we could all remember that on a daily basis imagine the positive impact we could create.
Cheers, Carly
